Marriage registration is mandatory in Tamil Nadu under the Tamil Nadu Registration of Marriages Act, Hindu Marriage Act, or Special Marriage Act. Both spouses must appear in person before the Sub-Registrar.
Start online (fastest):
- Visit tnreginet.gov.in and complete the online marriage registration form.
- Upload documents and book an in-person appointment slot at your jurisdictional Sub-Registrar Office.
Required documents:
- Age proof for groom (minimum 21 years) and bride (minimum 21 years) — Birth certificate, 10th TC, or Passport.
- Residence proof for both spouses (Aadhaar card, Smart Ration card, or Voter ID).
- Wedding invitation card or marriage receipt from Temple/Choultry.
- 4 passport-size photographs of bride and groom.
- 3 witnesses with original Aadhaar cards and photographs to sign the register.
